DRAFT Magazine Article

A few months back I wrote an article for Draft Magazine on Cask Conditioned Ales in NYC. It has been published and the issue is on stands, so go out and buy a copy. You can also ready the article here.

properly done cask is really the way to go and it's awesome that there's now a cask festival in the city at least every couple of months. one thing i have run into though is that some bars offer a beer on cask without the demand to finish it within a couple of the days and the cask lingers and winds up tasting off, which discourages a lot of people from trying cask beer again. which is why a cask festival is really the way to go--you can try multiple beers on cask at one time, and you're also guaranteed of the freshness of each cask

Very true. Cask festivals, when done right, and visited in off hours, are a real treat. Why home brew, when you can have experts doing it for you. "yah, i outsource my home brewing, what of it."

For me, and probably for most, beers that I might ordinarily stay away from, i.e. strong IPAs, barleywines, really come alive on cask, showing way more depth, more floral, and delicious.

p.s. when's the next cask festival?
